Dolphin and Whale watching in Cornwall

Updated: Aug 13, 2021

Did you know you don't have to go all the way to New Zealand or other overseas countries to see Dolphins and Whales in the Wild?

Come to Cornwall and book a trip locally on a Sealife Safari tour and you will see some amazing sights and wildlife. Padstow is just 30 minutes drive away and you catch a tour from there. Booking is essential. It's good value for money too - a two boat tour cost £40 per adult and £25 per child.

Wrap up really warm taking a windproof and waterproof as you can get really cold on the water and its very windy. Some of the boats have a cabin and toilet if needed. They will provide waterproof trousers and lifejacket.

The boat trip we went on lasted 3 hours and was age 14 and over. There were 8 passengers. We saw 4 dolphins and 5 seals, but of course this is not guaranteed.

The boat will travel out of the Camel Estuary to the Atlantic Ocean, travelling up to 30 knots and covering approximately 25 miles of beautiful coastline in search of an array of marine life that inhabits our waters and coastline. Slowing down in areas where we are likely to spot wildlife, you may be able to see seals, dolphins, porpoises, and even sunfish or the elusive basking shark during the summer months.

The Cornish coastline also hosts a myriad of seabirds including shags, cormorants, gannets, oystercatchers, shearwaters, fulmars and more. From the months of April to July, the cliffs are teeming with nesting guillemots and razorbills and you will visit “Puffin island” – one of the last places puffins can be found nesting in Cornwall – with hope of spotting these beautiful birds.

The trips are professionally guided, offering you the chance to learn a little about the wildlife we see as well as local points of interest and Cornish local heritage. You may also visit Trevose Head where you can get a unique view of the ‘new’ Padstow Lifeboat Station. You will have ample opportunity to snap some great photos of exciting wildlife and rugged coastline. Every trip is a non-stop mixture of sensitive wildlife observation and high-speed exhilaration.
